SUMMARY:Book Talk at the San Jose Garden Club\, November 12
DESCRIPTION:I’m absolutely thrilled to have the incredible opportunity to speak at the San Jose Garden Club on November 12th! Since way back in 1972\, they’ve been all about spreading knowledge and fostering a love for horticulture\, gardening\, landscape design\, and floral design. \nAt my talk\, titled “Apricots and the Valley of Heart’s Delight“\, I’ll be diving into my passion for apricots\, sprinkled with local history and memories from the Valley of Heart’s Delight. And let me tell you\, encouraging fellow gardeners to plant apricot trees\, whether it’s the classic Blenheim or any other heritage variety\, is something I’m incredibly passionate about\, and it’s just perfect for the Garden Club! \nGardening isn’t just a hobby for me\, it’s a way of life. I adore cultivating flowers\, veggies\, and of course\, nurturing and harvesting my beloved apricot trees! I can hardly contain my excitement to swap gardening tips and tricks at the Garden Club meeting. And I’ll be sharing all sorts of juicy details about the Santa Clara Valley’s history\, my fond memories of growing up on an orchard\, and even some mouthwatering apricot recipes and resources from the brand spanking new 5th Anniversary Edition of my cookbook/memoir\, For the Love of Apricots!

SUMMARY:Andy's Orchard Tasting and Tour\, July 7
DESCRIPTION:I’m thrilled to return to Andy’s Orchard on July 7th for his highly anticipated Summer Fruit Tasting & Tours. Cherries and apricots should be plentiful this season and both will be showcased at this event. I had the pleasure of touring Andy’s orchards with him in late April and both the cherry and apricot crops were looking fantastic. \nBefore and after you taste the myriad varieties of cherries and apricots that Andy grows\, I will be signing my cookbook/memoir\, “For the Love of Apricots: Recipes and Memories of the Santa Clara County.” I’ll also be offering tastes of recipes\, including the “Heart’s Delight Bars\,” a cherished family recipe generously provided by Andy Mariani. I hope to see you there! \nAndy extends his invitation to all stone fruit enthusiasts from across the Bay Area to join in tasting the multitude of stone fruit varieties he cultivates\, taking a tour of the orchards\, and even picking some ripe fruit guided by a trained docent. It’s a rare chance to explore a working fruit orchard right in the heart of Silicon Valley. Don’t miss out on this exciting\, delicious\, and educational experience! \nThis event is just one of five Andy is hosting this summer\, providing a unique opportunity to taste many different fruit varieties not commonly found in grocery stores or farmer’s markets. \n\nJune 16 – Featuring mostly cherries\, with some other stone fruits.\nJuly 7 – Featuring Late cherries\, and early apricots.\nJuly 13 – Featuring mostly apricots\, but also other stone fruits.\nJuly 28 – Variety of stone fruits\, including peaches and nectarines.\nAugust 10 – Variety of stone fruits\, including peaches\, plums and pluots.

SUMMARY:Saratoga Blossom Festival\, June 8
DESCRIPTION:Come enjoy the historic Saratoga Blossom Festival that celebrates Saratoga’s orchard history and world famous fruit! This will be my seventh year at the Blossom Festival where I will share tastes of apricot recipes\, local apricot products\, and sign the 5th Anniversary Edition of my cookbook/memoir: For the Love of Apricots: Recipes and Memories of the Santa Clara Valley. I hope you will join me at this charming event located in the Saratoga Heritage Orchard as we appreciate the Valley of Heart’s Delight of the past and the orchards that remain today! \nThe Saratoga Heritage Orchard site was originally part of the Quito Rancho Mexican land grant in 1841\, which included present-day Saratoga\, Campbell\, and Cupertino. In the 1880s\, it was owned by the Marian family. The property was purchased by F.C .Cox in the 1920s\, who farmed apricots and prunes for 30 years. In the 1950s\, the land was owned and farmed by three generations of the Seagraves family until the City of Saratoga purchased the land in the 1970s to preserve it as a working orchard representative of the once vast Valley of Heart’s Delight agricultural heritage. Saratoga’s Novakovich family brought this orchard back to life in the late ’70s and maintained it as a productive commercial orchard\, producing Bing cherries\, Blenheim apricots\, and French prunes for over 40 years. \nExplore the orchard\, discover the work of local artisans\, enjoy antique cars along with lively tunes of Bluegrass & Dixieland music\, the hum of vintage farm motors\, and stop by to see me in the heart of the orchard!
